Sumer Trinity Apartment
This apartment, located in a posh apartment complex in the heart of Mumbai, is designed contemporary style, combining functionality with aesthetics. The apartment belongs to a corporate couple, who were already familiar with the work of Bluedot. Keeping their brief simple, they asked that their home should feature "delicate elements of luxury", and a light color palette. They also requested that we provided them with extra storage for their belongings. And that came us a challenge for us, to create huge storage capacity without compromising on the aesthetics.
We began by making some structural changes. The kitchen wall was demolished to make it larger internally and the semi-open towards the dining side, making it visually more connected. The advantage of this apartment was large windows, giving it ample natural light and airiness. We kept the general lighting simple and subliminal and created mood lighting for effect by adding a laser-cut panel on the living room wall and LED strips under the passage panelling to highlight the curve.
The entrance long passage, otherwise a dull unusable space, was turned into an interesting guiding curved path with artifacts displayed all along with the invisible storage.
Complete interiors are kept subtle using neutral tones, white being the base. Splashes of yellow, blue, green and orange appear throughout this apartment to make it vibrant. We used some eclectic materials across the house like Corian for passage cladding, unpolished yellow Travertine to highlight the long-living dining wall, with insertions of SS strips and glass panels for wardrobes. The furniture was carefully picked to become part of the interiors and not stand out completely, like the woven natural cane chairs and white Duco dining table, beige leather sofas and built-in bed with a dark veneer. The bedroom at the entrance is converted into a study and entertainment room.
The whole apartment is blended into one large space with a similar language moving from one room to another, even though there are wall partitions across.
